I don't know I think it's more likely that he was so drugged up and out of his mind overworked that he messed up his teleportation when he made his first quick escape that he cut off his own legs via teleportation. That's why the legs are cut at exactly the same spot. He was probably passed out in the woods when they found him. Also, he clearly doesn't need legs to teleport to escape/kidnap.

I completely agree! I think he teleported somewhere dangerous, passed out, made the assumption that the duke did, and the duke just didn’t care enough to correct him. Also people calling the fl slow/dumb for getting closer to the teleporter but when you have a person dying in front of you from a horrific injury asking for a simple final wish only someone with no heart would be able to completely ignore them (if u decide not to run away that is). And the fl DID try to take a precaution, she put the cup near him but not close enough to touch him. He just happened to break free in that moment and be able to reach so I can’t fully blame her for that.
Nah he totally cut those legs off so he wouldn't have a chance of escaping (or kidnapping a certain someone)
