Somehow I can kind of relate to futaba. It's really hard to move on especially when you think there's still hope. Rather than clinging to the past, it's more of like thinking about what the future could've been with that person if things actually worked out well. Even though there might be other people that might treat you better, sometimes you just get attached to your "what if's" and delusions. Also because futaba saw the part in him where he actually treats her well and she felt butterflies for him, it's that schema of him that probably sticks to futaba and not his worse sides. It's said that you should be with the person that you feel comfortable with, not someone who gives you butterflies. You know what 'might' be better for you but you just can't help choosing what you want. It sucks but that's how feelings work.
Though I kind of feel bad for Touma, he was actually kind of manipulative and he should've known that their relationship wouldn't be stable if they started like that.
