Ceres's stepbrother (the other prince) and his group is the one that made Ceres's life suffer.
The one saved the 8th division was the Queen who visited last time.
The Queen is actually the stepbrother's mistress who got pregnant and scared she would get killed, so she run to seek help to the emperor (father of Ceres and stepbrother).
Emperor is cold jerk who only seek amusement. So he though he want to watch all this fight going on.
So he decided to support that mistress by making her a Queen, and adopt his supposed grandson as his own son (3rd prince).
Queen wanted to get Ceres back to position as Crown Prince and take over the throne instead of the stepbrother.
That was the only way for her and her son to survives.

Plots confusing the hell out of me. He's the first prince, which is why the whole 8th devision was saved. But now they are trying to kill him? Why are they going through all these extra steps of rehabilitation if they were just planning to kill off the whole 8th devision anyways? What type of evil ass person tortures people their entire lives, returns their sanity to them after the war. Just to have them brutally murdered immediately after...
