its because this is a war, and the lizardmen are fighting the vampires, and they are not able to save every single slave. they have to shoot most of the slaves because the vampires stand too far away to be shot at. if they don't shoot the slaves, then the vampires get into the fortress and kill the lizardmen. the lizardmen will maybe let in the slaves that survive and get far enough BECAUSE there is no danger of the vampires close by, otherwise they would continue to shoot arrows down.
also these slaves are not originally blue insect god's followers, the slaves are mostly the other god's (dice man and the other 4) abandoned followers. which means, they only converted to the blue insect god recently because of the rumor of all the other gods giving up on them.
so the lizardmen have no reason to risk their own tribe members to open the doors to save these slaves.
this is how I understood it, hope this made it a little more clear!
1. Vampires may be hiding among the slaves, trying to infiltrate the castle.
2. To slow down the vampires chasing the slaves and preventing them from getting into the castle, they must shoot the arrows.
3. Because A Good Ruler ≠ A kind Ruler. While it virtuous to want to save everyone, you also put your own people at risk. So you can only save as many as you can and not everyone. Lakrak recognizes that.
So why the lizardmen killing the slave though? If they really want to help them why shoot them instead of shooting the enemies? I'm just curious cuz it doesn't make sense to only open the gate to one who survived that they attacked then act like helping him/them like malevolent but they're literally killing them too aren't they hypocrite like what the vampire said? Please explain this to KINDLY cuz I'm really confused right now and so that i can understand this situation thank you ...
