I feel like all of the plots and misunderstandings so far made sense (like the orphan child, the grandpa etc.) but this one was just like omg wtf is going on here?? If the author wanted to bring up the conversation that they won’t be that accepted for being in a gay relationship she should have just made the girl homophobic and that’s it. Why give her a backstory and then say oh btw I’m homophobic just because

Exactly! Just make her homophobic for no reason, because most people are homophobic for literally NO reason. It was just a weird sob story she said out of nowhere that had nothing to do with her being bigoted
Other than the things that are already being said I’m just so baffled by how her story doesn’t make any sense at all? I’m not sure what the author was trying to do here but how does being a neglected child relate to doing the things she did
