No he actually still have corrupted feelings to her, he loved her but felt disappointed because she didn't notice him until he became a commander and all yk it's his problem for being a freak and delusional so he wanted her to feel the same thing and ended up making her suicidal which he doesn't want.
Honestly y'all think human nature is different from this. Imagine being in his place and her father sent you to the battlefield, and as a spy to another land and you get captured and tortured and forgotten without a backup. And when you leave you see that the one you loved never knew about anything or let's say she knew her father was bad but never tried to have a little authority or influence as the successor. If I was him I'd backlash at his kids to torture him that's how humans are, don't say I'm different. The current war happening in our world is all due to the ancestors' hatred and same act. So he did the least, killed her father and tortured her mentally. I'm not defending him, he's wrong in all kinds of way but it's reasonable as this is the reality we're in. Magical personality and stories aside that's how tragedies are.
