his parents and Ash are mostly at fault, they raised him to only care about money and he only knew how to express affection through money. abandonment issues fueled his obsession. and then violet don't even know he cares so much because her brother Ash and his parents screwed her so much that his gifts and money didn't even get to her. Don't get me started on how their families teamed up to make her miserable.
