My calico was skittish until her old age where any lap would do. My mom's cat, a tabby, was the meaner one. He picked on her a lot. I don't really think cat breeds have distinct personality traits, just like dogs. Any dog seen as an athletic breed has its couch potatoes.
But for genetic reference, calico are 99% female because the fur color pattern is due to the activation and deactivation of the X-chromosomes. The first cloned cat, CC (Copy Cat,) was a calico and had a completely different pattern from her parent; it's due to development in the womb which X-chromosomes are activated in different cells.
The 1% that are male are likely like Kleinfelter syndrome in humans. As an XXY, they are infertile and have shorter lifespans. In most litters, the "male calicos" end up being orange tabbies, giving them a higher male percentage, with females at 20%.
For one more fun cat fact, white cats are more likely to be deaf, up to 65-85% likely if both their eyes are also blue and is more common in long-haired vs short haired.
We finally seeing human Marie in the next chapter? Bite that pearl real hard bbg. Calicos are suppose to be arsehóles. Lol chiffon should've been a tabby orange
