I agree, this was actually different than in the novel. This part was portrayed better in the novel. I heard they changed it to keep it PG but honestly, it doesn’t convey the reason why she met the last conditions by the author (plus why she suddenly decided to get captured).
Spoiler:
In the novel, she was beaten badly and abandoned (she didn’t expect it either so that’s strike one for betrayal). She got tired of everything and basically lost the will to live. The train scene was so sad and I’m a bit disappointed it was changed, this was where the guards were looking at each passenger and she decided to show herself (she still have bruises and she was keeping her hands warm with the hot potatoes she bought as a snack). I think they fell short on showing how Edith felt hopeless that she decided she just wants to rest. I’m curious what’s going to happen next though lol since Edith is free and the Duchess basically exposed Reeze already so the dungeon scene is pointless at this point. It’s like they’re cutting a good portion before the conclusion so it might look more rushed towards the end.
Why is everything happening so fast? It feels like a conflict without any type of build up. To be such an important part of the story it kinda feels like it happened in a day. I think it should have taken more time in order to create tension.
I also feel like her decision to see him one more time felt very rushed.
Idk if this is going to sound exaggerated but it seems like the characters didn't actually suffer or went through something they haven't been through before, don't get me wrong I didn't want her to get beaten to death or something, but the conflict and their circumstances felt pretty bland
