its probably bcs japan doesnt legalize gay marriages
a japanese citizen is only allowed to adopt if they're married but same sex couples can't officially get married so they can't adopt a child either, lesbians can try ivf, for gays surrogacy is possible in other countries but not everyone got the money for that, same sex fostering is not possible in majority of japan so same-sex couples and trans couples have very limited options for family expending
you have to "adopt" your partner for you to be able to take care of them when they're sick too, it's pretty tiring

i feel kinda sad on how they stressed the fact that they can't have children but that's just because of japanese laws!!! every situation around the mcs was so tragic and empty! grandpa was amazing and prevented toma from ending up depressed and drunk like kaoru, but now they have each other and it's probably the only good thing that has ever happened to them, which is pretty realistic actually ╥﹏╥
