This would have been 10/10 in my book if Velk actually attempted to leave just as Ryuka said and was stopped by Ryuka last minute because he realized worrying about their different mortality would only make him suffer more in the long run.
Velk leaving him is also not a guarantee that he wouldn't fall for another human with the same mortality as Ryuka. I would actually like to see characters acknowledge the flaws in their logic for once.
