The angst being Shin not liking that Jake is a "good guy" is so weak. As in writing choices. Who would have thought my boy Shin wanted a bad boy fr. I mean...i get it but if there's no background holding this plot it seems weak, like get back together already. They can roleplay later, bring some guns again. Idk.

it is NOT because shin is into ‘bad boys’. It’s the principle, jake has basically been lying to shin for the entirety of their relationship. Pretending to be a thug who controls a gang and is intimidating and wtvr when in reality he’s some undercover agent. Shin is allowed to question whether their ENTIRE relationship and identity is built on lies. He doesn’t know if any feelings they shared are real. atp he practically doesn’t know who jake is.

It is not about Jake being a good guy, it is about Jake manipulating Shin. Let's not forget that he already had a previous relationship that did this to him....

This. He just lost all trust and feels betrayed. Jake doesn’t even seem remorseful. So now it feel like he only approached him and stayed with him for ulterior motives, or just used him as a fuck toy on the side for fun. Plus now he doesn’t even know if *any* of Jake’s sides that he saw are real. He doesn’t know the man anymore or what to believe.

He probably said the bad boy bit out of pride just to put Jake down. Or he’s just confused atm. Cuz in the past he was pretty upset at getting involved with a gangster.

exactly that, especially the last part. shin disliked the gangster aspect of jake from the start and wasn’t one to put himself in danger or become a fan of killing people, but he literally said that he was willing to risk it all for jake because he’s serious about him. finding out that all of it was a lie is pretty betraying once you’ve already announced your commitment.

him saying that he doesnt like jake because he isnt a gangster is a lie. realistically, he’s hurt because he fell for jake and found out their relationship was built on a lie so now he feels like he can’t trust him. i think shin is becoming defensive, and because jake made him feel vulnerable because he showed his emotions and was tricked, he is trying to hurt jake and make him feel stupid like shin did. it’s like, “oh, you think youre the one who fooled me? well actually youre the idiot because i only liked the fact you were a gangster.”
shin insulted jake to cope. he is hurt. he doesn’t actually care about the gangster part (although i do think shin maybe felt like jake could relate to him better because of it since shin was a street mechanic + scammed people so he understands how rough the world is).
