sorry in advance for the lengthy rant and probably non-existent grammar (not all listed are related to the heteronormative nature of ABO fics):
1. r*pe in chapter 2. the whole execution would have been better if the artist added a scene where the ML hesitates for even 5 seconds before forcing himself onto the MC. what did the ML do instead? says “i won’t do it if u push me away” and the very next scene he inserts his eggplant without giving MC any time to think. i decided to keep reading cause i understood the author’s intention, though the execution was poor.
2. the omega is a virgin. nothing against virgins but the author purposefully points that out when doing the opposite won’t make the story much different. kinda a purist take if u ask me. and it’s omegaverse, where the setting is there to allow sex to happen even if characters OOC. having a virgin omega should be rare but somehow almost every MC is one. the prevalence of virgin bottom x experience top in manhwa makes me ponder if these series are meant as self-inserts for female readers. i read somewhere that women usually prefer their partners to be more experienced than them ┗( T﹏T )┛
3. each time a character mentions an alpha omega relationship in the way a straight relationship is described, an angel rips off its wings. so in an omegaverse (with exceptions), the AO dynamic is the straight/orthodox pairing. ML is someone with a phobia towards omegas due to an event in his childhood. if he had relationships in the past, he would have dated betas and/or alphas. when the ML sleeps with an omega for the first time, his friend says this: “so I guess you are a functioning alpha despite your condition.” it’s blatant queer-erasure, and the whole magic b*ssy cures u trope.
4. character motives are half-polished and barely foreshadowed unless the plot requires it. what happened to ML’s mom? the omega woman that tried to kill the young ML, what was her motive? issues arise too quickly and get resolved too quickly. a bit greedy on my part, but i wished the ML could have tried to look into the case that gave him trauma as a way to overcome his omega phobia because i feel like looking into why the omega women tried to kill him would uncover a bigger issue about ABO society. ABO is a great tool to dissect internalized misogyny and the mistreatment of women, but it’s so underutilized in that area.
5. the author plays the delivery man like an out of tune fiddle. he’s doesn’t serve any purpose other than being hot and a voice of reason. lazy writing.
6. Pregnancy. i am ok with mpreg, but this author doesn’t seem to know a thing about pregnancy. it’s like they figured out halfway through the MC’s pregnancy that eating sweets causes gestational diabetes.
7. For a sports BL, there’s hardly anything related to sports. Anything sports or Olympic related can be summarized in five or less sentences
(╯°Д °)╯╧╧ (i’ll probably cringe at my seriousness later)
i just finished a manhwa and it made me realize how heteronormative the concept is. the manhwa itself was quite distasteful (my opinion); idk why i power through the whole thing. i need to touch some grass ┗( T﹏T )┛
