Well, most BL is written by women for women. MCs are usually ukes and almost a placeholder for women in straight relationships. And rape is one of the biggest anxieties that a woman carries all their life. A not insignificant percent of women survive it.
Writing can be a medium to exorcise your anxieties. Just like how a rollercoaster is mimicking falling down without any of the actual danger, fiction can use our fears in ways that are safe, even therapeutic at times.
The problem is most of societies' unhelpful attitudes also bleed into these stories. That rape is somehow the victim's failure at prevention or that it is because the rapist simply can't help themselves when they see the victim, it is a sign of excessive desire blablabla...
Don't get me wrong, i also would like stories (BL or otherwise) without this much rape and all the nonsense around it but seeing where it's coming from might make you less annoyed and more... sad about the state of affairs.
Being a Mc in Bl novels
is terrifying. All your friends will drug and rape you. Most people have this weird obsession to rape you and keep you emotionally drained.. Even the ML has some tendencies to act sporadic.
