THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL

PLEASE this is SO beautiful. I got stressed so much because AHH religious plots always hit so close to home for me. But this was just such a beautiful story. The art, the setting, the characters, everything. It genuinely felt so warm. Listening to Red River Valley while reading the part where it was playing made me tear up!!! "We will miss your bright eyes and sweet smile, for they say you are taking the sunshine that has brightened our path for awhile" is SO??? Like, Theo is so like the sunshine. It really is sad that he can't see his family again :( I especially feel bad for Chloe :(
I loved everything about this. Enough angst to make me tear up but more beauty than anything to leave me feeling warm and happy. I love Oz and Theo, they're just so lovely I'm so happy for them

Spoiler:
One thing I'm a little confused on is Danny. He's a very interesting character, cause I can't tell what type of love he has for Theo. I know he just doesn't want to lose someone again after Gene, but also him promising Theo that he'd marry Chloe so that Theo wouldn't leave feels more like he loves Theo more than Chloe? And the whole thing with him kissing Oz... What, he's wondering why both Gene and Theo would be with men? Or what? It didn't feel like it didn't fit or it didn't make sense, but it just made me curious to know more.

I'm so sorry I don't really have any manga since it's moreso something I see in western media (╥﹏╥) (or occasionally Thai dramas like Shadow or the upcoming Ticket to Heaven).

I SWEAR I've read some manga that involve religion but can't think of them :") there's "Our Dreams at Dusk" which I don't remember if it touches on religion but has a lot of introspective/societal depth.

Another queer religious story I've read is Autoboyography (queer in a Mormon town)
Also not exactly religion-centric but The Bones Beneath My Skin by TJ Klune is fantastic and similar to Our Dreams at Dusk has a lot of introspective/societal depth

Sorry I couldn't offer more ( T﹏T ) hopefully someone will see this and give us recommendations cause I also need more

that’s okay, no problem! i appreciate these recs. do you have any general sort of recs for media w/ strong religious themes (including the western media you mentioned)? i love queer + religious stuff, but if it’s not queer that’s okay too. :3

The ones I mentioned are fun :3 I also really like Midnight Mass is good if you're alright with sort of horror themed religious series.
The Shack is also a good movie (heavy themes, but I think handled well, at least last I watched it).

I haven't watched this in some time, so can't still guarantee that it's good lol but I enjoyed The Falls (2012. LDS missionaries fall in love on their mission)

I can't think of many others at the moment :")
Beyond longer media, I also just like the aesthetic a lot so I love music videos like (not western, but...) Enhypen's Sacrifice (Eat Me Up), Oh My God by G-Idle, Halazia by Ateez, Eternally by TXT, Last Parade by BamBam.
And then ofc there's Lil Nas X Montero.
