I don't think this story tries to justify the abuse of the mother. It just shows us how the protagonist is able to work through her own struggles. Often times, an imports part of dealing with parental abuse is understanding your parents and what made them act like it. Not to justify or excuse, but because it helps us understand what happened and why. I think this story does a pretty good job of this without the vocabulary and access to knowledge we have nowadays thanks to the internet
I meant no hate on the author as I believe this story carried out this sensitive issue better than most mangas. But i just wanted to let readers know that they can feel bad and sympathize with their wrongdoer, but they don't ever HAVE to forgive their abuser to be a good person. This MC, in away forgave her mother, which was sweet as she finally found her peace but she saw herself as an ugly person until the very end. And that broke my heart seeing how her mother's abuse stayed with her for her entire life.

no matter what kind of justification this story tries to give the mother i hope children out there who are going through this type of abuse know that it's okay not to be as forgiving as this MC. Abuse = Abuse no matter the circumstances
