Is anyone familiar with rules in the army while you are deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan. I met this person ( I don't know him in RL) But he says he has a night shift now. But is it even possible to have a cellphone or have acces to Facebook while deployed ?
I wan't know if I can trust this persons and speaks the truth..

Thanks ! ヽ(`Д´)ノ

They still have computers and phones and tablets over there.

Now updating your status while bullets are flying at you is rather frowned upon, but I assume you mean while deployed to a combat zone, where you can chat or whatever while you are not in imminent danger.

There are still considerations that the soldier must abide by (not giving out sensitive information), but if they have internet access (which isn't guaranteed) they can chat on facebook and other social networking sites.

"How do you know when you are talking to us army soldier on facebook"

Well you don't unless you actually know that person outside of facebook. Someone in the military might choose to keep a low profile while a civilian could easily pretend to be a soldier. We're talking about the internet here, where the men are men, the women are men, and the 12 year-old girls are FBI agents.

Well I've read that cellphones were not allowed a few years back, so I wasn't sure if that was still the case. And I couldn't find a clear answer so that's why.

Well in the navy you can although there are some prohibitions including not using your phone while on duty. But honestly tho not a lot of military personnel like to admit that they're in the service, for a lot of reasons. And you said Iraq? No offense but military bases there don't really have the best signal. So sorry if it seems like I'm doubting him, blame it on the cynical me ( ̄へ ̄)

    Thank you !
    Well I meant both situations
The answer you gave me solved a lot of confusion for me !

But yeah... I'll still be wary though because of the Internet.
I still don't completely trust this persons story yet, but for now I can't find any holes that the person is lying. So maybe it is speaking the truth, we will see..

    Thanks again ! (▰˘◡˘▰)

Well that is why am asking about this because I am doubting this person (╥﹏╥)
    So I am a bit cynical myself. ( ̄へ ̄)

Well, I suppose my experience with deployment is my brother...and he's in cyber...I know he has a cell phone, he needs to be reached...and he's also a Sargent so it's probably different for regular joes. And I'm sure it's different if you're in a combat area.
