i think he was waiting for his brother to be born again so that he could be sure he lives happily and safe and that he doesn't ask for forgiveness because he still doesn't think he deserves it
but I agree, i wish they could be at least on a talking at the phone once a month basis (i kinda hope that sometime in the future he can do a good act and be truly forgiven and have a happy ending himself perhaps)
