Beautiful analysis!!
I guess authors these days like the classic toxic tropes... The first few chapters are actually really good but it went down hill so fast.
These two are just toxic & flawed main characters that solved an issue in the worst way possible. It also feels like the author wanted to make their 'making up' dramatic and romantic but that failed so bad.
I will keep reading to see what kind of ridiculous tropes this author will add. I read this for entertainment... but it is also frustrating to know that this could have been a gem if only it was better executed.
I totally agree on it. I love angst on stories and man when it's done so fucking well I can feel the mc's or the sc's pain and it feels so real, like they're both human beings.
I will also continue to read on to see how the author decides to develop the story and what common clichés they're gonna add ( ̄∇ ̄")
But man, how good of a story would be to teach to people it's hard to cut ties with someone, but in some cases it's necessary (maybe even show Leo regretting absolutely everything and even if he can't get J.J. back, learn and move on from that awful character he was in the past.
YES WE COULD HAVE HAD THIS.
They don't need to make it work. They hurt eo for so long and change is hard.
I can talk from experience. Therapy is very much needed and communication is the most vital thing!!!
Upset we didn't see them actually split up and reflect on themselves, having new lives and maybe after a few years meet again as friends. Or maybe not meet but have their own happiness w people that cherish them.
We don't see that often in BL. I wish we could get more bittersweet stories with less rape.. I'm so tired of having rape as the moving plot.... Sigh
What also would be cool to maybe touch sensitive topics, Leo getting depressed and developing low self esteem, also having bad thoughts and isolating himself. It would show how much this relationship was a column for him and how he took it for granted BC of his selfish personality and actions.
Yeah!!! That could've been such a good way to develop the story!!!
Sadly, toxic tropes (and even rape situations or dubcon) are predominate in BL stories, which makes it look a bit bad since it's essentially MLM relationships and reflect that in most of them there's toxicity (when it doesn't need to be but ig a good floof story is not as attractive [can't say much as i enjoy angst and toxicity kinda comes with it])
I'd give anything to see how both Leo and J.J. work up though their breakup. Heck, up to chapter 16 I thought Leo was gonna find J.J. chatting with other people and think he might not be as medular to him as he is to himself, and leave him be. Finally understand how bad of a boyfriend he had been and knowing he can't fix things with J.J. and that what's better for them now is having a time apart, unknown if they could even be friends after all the shit that's happened.
The job offer could help J.J. cool off his head and focus on his career as he was stuck with Leo and this is an opportunity of growth.
But alas, gonna have to see how the story develops onwards. I'm having so low expectations on it already lmao
Hello! Hi! This is. Everything. Did I mention, everything? Thank you! This is what I’ve been trying to say! I’m crying tears of joy that you are so sane and rational. Yes! The fact that people are trying to debate who is worse is ludicrous to me. The same people dying on their ridiculous hills over who is worse, are completely blind to the fact that they are both bad and probably deserve each other in hell, and that there is no competition over this like some game. HOWEVER, people’s attitudes about the actions of the characters are inexcusable. Rape is rape. Read the story if you want, do what you want, you are a free-thinking individual, but to try justifying rape is wrong. More than the pointless character war, addressing and acknowledging the problematic content is most important. It’s all I’ve been asking for from people .
Side note! Rather than a narcissist as you suggest, I think Leo is that ‘naive’ emotionally immature and underdeveloped kind of person. I hate that trope/archetype so much though. It’s an excuse for characters to be blissfully oblivious to things for the sake of angst or miscommunication storylines (ahem this story ahem) as well as being totally toxic. Flawed characters are a good thing, but these guys are just poorly-written (sorry for the swearing) FUCKS by a poor writer (also why I think the author isn’t clever enough to fledge him out as something complex like a narcissist). Sorry not sorry story fans.
I'm so glad you liked it!
And regarding me calling Leo narcissist, I'm based off of the fact that he's doing/buying things for J.J. without considering his feelings on it. It's usual to buy a present thinking of someone we cherish, even if to us it's not something we like/enjoy, were instead thinking about the likings of that person and their happiness. Leo bought a full cat not even knowing if J.J. would like it (tho from little that's been shown, we can assume J.J. does not like a life full of luxuries or an ostentatious life), he just bought it cuz he liked the image he created of J.J. driving it. It was for his own enjoyment, not for J.J.
And yeah, I agree that they're not well-written characters and the story also sins of that. It was a bit of a easy way to just call Leo a narcissist and call it a day, emotionally immature is a better term to use for him. I appreciate your feedback on it!
Both are toxic as fuck. Man, Leo is such an idiot I don't believe he will truly change just for J.J.'s sake (he'll, in 5 years he didn't even think so until J.J. broke up with him) and J.J. is also toxic as hell.
Not only not communicating things but choosing the time when THE OTHER ONE IS NOT EVEN LISTENING. Like. Fucking when he's blatantly ignoring you and asking you to move from their line of vision just to keep playing. Of course it's the perfect time to talk about a job offer you've been considering. It was just normal Leo wouldn't know CUZ HE WASNT EVEN PAYING ATTENTION.
And also Leo, fucking disgusting eating chips in the sofa and leaving the crumbs and using outside shoes inside the house when you have a "No shoes inside the house" policy. Yeah, he's a narcissist and J.J. should get away from him. It's hard to get away from someone you've learned to love and care for, but them saying "Oh, I'll change for you" just seems like a red flag that they'll most likely won't change xd. Just leave before you get hurt more.
And for people telling that J.J. didn't rape Leo in that chapter 13 and 14. He did.
First of all, Leo wanted to do it in a hotel, but I.J. wanted to do it right then and there. Leo wasn't okay with it, but j.j. coerced Leo into agreeing threatening to back off from the agreement of being fuck buddies. That's not consent xD. Even if Leo and J.J. both agreed to being sex buddies, it's done with both consent on the location, times, using or not a condom, etc. Leo was coerced into it at that moment with J.J. threatening to undo the agreement, and even J.J. was purposefully rough on Leo, and didn't even stop nor slowed down despite Leo telling him to do so.
J.J didn't even loosen up Leo appropriately before putting his dick in, he could've hurt him and tear something up (ofc for the sake of the story that didn't happen but irl preparation is the most important part to not hurt your partner AND J.J. MISSED THAT)
EVEN LEO SAID IT HURT!!!
ARE WE GOING TO MISS THAT??????
I reiterate. Both are pieces of shit and toxic mf that should go to fucking therapy (Leo might not work out cuz narcissist people are hard to manage for therapy), they both have their share of fault for that shaky and awful relationship they had and not knowing how to fix it (mostly cuz it's not even fixable) but man, J.J. even had to force himself onto Leo aaaahhhhhh. That. Is. Rape.
Even within a fuck buddy relationship, rape can still happen. Rape can happen in marriage too. Rape is not bound only to people you're not even familiar with. It can happen from a friend, to your boyfriend/girlfriend, to your ex and your spouse.
I will forever be hater of J.J.
If J.J. no longer has a hater, it's cuz I'm dead.
