If not did you want only ML or only FL to be strong? There would be a power imbalance between the two. And if it was only 2 weak ones then their story won't have any action or such.

If you want a change from that, "How to reject my obsessive ex-husband" as the guide at a mid rank and the esper at a high rank. It's an actual plot point, the difference in their status. Without going into spoilers, it's pretty good and it's interesting getting glimpses of how they both viewed things differently.
Because then the story would have no reason to have the esper thing in the first place. It would just be a romance ???
I personally really loved that one guideverse story where the guide is incredibly weak but tries really hard to keep up with the esper that's the strongest in the country. Next I want to read one where the guide is super strong but the esper is weak.
