I agree that is sad, but I oresume the animation wasn't done because they had too much to censor, since it's not very spicy most of the time, but it takes a lot of time teasing things that would have to be changed or cut out - more than any other MXTX story, really. My presumption is based on the fact that they, despite it being an MXTX story, with two other popular anime of the same origin having been created, didn't seem to have much of the budget for it. Not only was the ending cut very short, as if they had to come to a conclusion of that part of the story, but didn't get additional episodes green lit, but the animation itself was abysmal. It was cheap CGI animation, that would even make Berserk (2016) or Ajin cry in agony.
Even the few episodes it does have have been altered, compared to the book. And one of those changes managed to show up even in the Webtoon, though that one barely had any content (he's sitting in a jar, so they wouldn't have to actually show the brutality of the "human stick"). We shouldn't forget that the books are quite violent, and most of the violence didn't get translated into the anime at all, in neither of these works, they watered it down heavily. The webtoons have seemingly more freedom, and yet even they are censored in a way (at least Heaven Official's Blessing's Webtoon has more blood than its anime brother).
Anyway, the fandom itself should still revolve around the work that was the heart of it all. And yes, I find it a shame it was axed, especially for unfair reasons if I gathered right that the fight that initiated the drop wasn't even related to Scum Villain, but another story of the publishing house. Still I love the story for what it is and what I can't have as an anime or webtoon, I can still read in the book.
I just realized that was misleading: I got the book of Scum Villain from my average bookstore's online shop. I've waited for it to come out in my language, because MDZS and TGCF were officially published here, but it never happened, so I got myself the official english version instead. I'm looking at them right now.
That's what I meant with the fact that it's not hard to come by.
Just to add that, because I bought the English books, though they wouldn't fit the language of my colletion, after years of contemplation, finally two weeks ago. The day before yesterday, they announced they bought the licence and it will be released in 2025 in my country officially. Just saying. I hate my life. Now I gotta by it again. But I can't not buy it, I'm a collector at heart. And broke in reality. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
