Do you mean you can't locate them? If that's it, then just look under the text box for typing comments and such and you will see (=・ω・=). Click on that and ye shall find the answers to what you seek.... Well, unless that's not what you were asking about but, still, hope that help!
they probably use their phone emoticon. I remember using emoticon with my tablet, but I can't create those with my computer ╮(￣▽￣)╭
It could be that they are using an add-on that you don't have on their computer. If you are using firefox it would be something like this
