Let's remember that these are teenagers, they don't have much experience in building relationships and have a lot of fears.
Both are super-too-wounded. And their traumas ran into each other.

Skylar shouldn't have said such terrible things, and honestly, I've been more on Cirrus' side from the beginning, because I understand very well what it's like to be so broken that you can't even build a normal relationship with the person you like.

Skylar is too mentally healthy for Cirrus, he can't even imagine that SUCH motivation exists. That someone can be so insecure about themselves and couldn't believe that they may be needed just like that without threats, tricks, intrigues and deception.
