I think shoujo has better art than yaoi but it’s prolly bcoz most of them are drawn by women who have acc spoken to men b4 and acc know how to draw anatomy right (to some extent) ┑(￣Д ￣)┍

I mostly read isekai shojo manhwa ,so I can only use that as a comparison. I think a lot of them are more of quantity over quality when the genre has became popular and lot of time the illustrator and the author are different people most of them were adapt from novels ,so maybe because the illustrator doesn’t have much control over the story itself making it harder for them to portray the story through their lens. Secondly, maybe shoujo stuff are easier to start with. A lot of bl manwha illustrators starts from shoujo stuff first then move to bl and that’s mean when they finally got to bl they already have a lot of practice and experience. Personally I think that the ratio of shoujo manhwa,manga,manhua are bigger than bl in general (since it is more socially accepted) ,so if you randomly pick up a story there’s a higher chance that the art is gonna be bad. Lastly, personal bias maybe you just prefer bl more than shoujo which is why you unconsciously think that bl in general are in higher quality or maybe you are very good at picking up good art bl and you don’t have much luck with shoujo.

These are just my assumptions and opinions sorry If it is a bit confusing (๑•ㅂ•)و✧

Hii, emm imo both shoujo and bl can have great or mid art, like the same ratio. Most modern shoujos I read have GORGEOUS art, and even shojos from 80s 90s have their appeal, specially for the time they were published. Shojosei and BL have to rely on the beauty of its characters and scenaries to attract audience (mainly female). Totally unrelated tho, shonen/seinen focus its art on the portrayal of actions of the characters, for example, battles, that is why they have to make simpler characters and settings (not always tho).

May be female artist loves to draw men Better, in shojo men look not much appealing and attractive as they look more in yaoi men in yaoi has rough looking appearance in shojo men looks mostly soft for female audience for good appearances mostly i meant i agree yaoi/bl has most beautiful art and character design of MLs/seme's than shojo... Even shojo artist who used to make shojos now try yaoi makes their seme's so much better than their straight stories.

Basically straight can't explore men personalities and make fl character developer but in genee of yaoi it's become appealing as female to focus on both males characters
