My thought was maybe the hero got possessed by the demon king so he had to kill him.

Maybe he was the one who got possessed not the hero. There was a line that says "surrender yourself to me" in one of the flashbacks
for "ridiculous" how about "Ange never married or had any children but ADOPTED a child" and somehow Noel looks exactly like her and has gained her ancestor's genetics....

Its because ange actually pregnant with Child's lancelot but lancelot was banish and that child became adopted so everyone not hate that child
