I mean imagine being basically cinderella but the prince was an emperor and had a legal wife who is the empress and you were just a consort. I might be misremembering things but I'm pretty sure og empress was a bitch and nothing like our mc. Now imagine the emperor who loved and protected you suddenly became distant, empress acted nice, and the only maid you could trust died cus of her own stupidity. You knew the fate of consorts who lose the favor of the emperor but its not like you could do anything to avoid it plus you probably thought the emperor actually did love you. You're cinderella, you thought being nice and kind and good would give you your happy ending but it didn't. Now you're probably screwed and you don't know how or what or why. You're just hoping that the kindness the empress is showing you won't turn out the same way the emperor's did.
