    Re-read?

From I got, the flashback is the real story. Jesse chose Law and groomed him to be dependent upon him. Law wanted more than what they had, he wanted an equal relationship. Which is why he was working on Moritat (which Jesse originally created) and with Jesse's mom.

Shit happens, Law's parents die thus freeing him, but Jesse has split up with Law. I'm still uncertain what his relationship with the maid was. We are uncertain why this happened since this is from Law's pov as he's telling the story to Jesse. But we do know that Jesse wanted Law freed from his mother's evil web...but besides that I'm not sure what exactly he was hoping Law would do.

Become better? All it did was send Law into a tailspin of self-destruction and obsession.

Law finished working on Moritat. Not sure how much time passes. During this time, Law is working out his relationship with Jesse through Moritat. As Law said, 20 years has passed for him since he spends all his time 'over there' in his memories, in Moritat.

Then one day he meets up with Jesse (after the class that we saw in the prologue) and this is where we found ourselves in the story. From that point on until Law is talking about their shared past we are IN the Moritat program that Law built to use on Jesse.

Emotional torture? Trying to show him what Law felt? Trying to show him his accomplishments without Jesse? Who knows. Maybe Law doesn't even know, maybe it's all due to Jesse's grooming of the dependency and the rejection of Law later on caused him to lose his mind.

The confrontation happens. Law informs Jesse of what all was reality and just the program and where it started (from the moment that Jesse fell from the cliff in Moritat) and that while it felt like months had gone by in Moritat only a single day had. Also, Law has spent 20 years in the program before Jesse ever came in so he's moved passed the heartache he had from Jesse abandoning him.

Jesse goes back to school and then sees the maid/nurse who worked for Law. She informs him she wants to work for him as a maid again since she can't get a new job and Law is always 'over there' in the original Moritat.

Jesse storms into Law's house, destroys the viewer (looks like the prototype Jesse created as a kid) and we see it's the young image of Jesse that Law saw from that trial run ages ago.

Jesse calls Law's wish of being equal as bullshit and claims Law as his puppy. Thus going back to their original relationship in which they were 'happy.'

    Does that help?
