not fighting back is a trauma response, its like a u cant move... he is just disassociated from his body

you saw he tried to right? but he was stronger than him. and on top of that it was the brother he admired the most. the one person he trusted in that household, thinking he was on his side. losing the will to fight back is a victim's response to a traumatic situation
