And saying the ML is not a red flag bc he’s providing the MC with shit is a horrible mentality. His life was rough before but the ML only made it 10x worse of course it’s going to seem like his life is better after the fact. He’s only using affection to control and limit the MC’s view of the world. It’s disgusting. Just because someone provides you with shit does give them the right to command you around like that. The ML MADE the mc dependent on him, he didn’t ask for it. I’ll keep reading it bc I find the portrayal of an abusive relationship to be very intriguing but I hate ppl trying to excuse that shit.
I really can’t see the MC being stupid, he’s in a horribly abusive relationship where he’s literally being threatened and manipulated. Even the “calmer” “cute” parts have manipulation smeared all over it. The ML is horribly controlling and I really can’t fault the MC for leaving espc when he tried all other options and it led to him being abused. Of course he’d try to pretend everything is fine and try to follow along or else it would just end up leaving him in a worse off place. Why would he be miserable 24/7 when he can pretend everything is fine and happy? It’s how abuse works. It’s not just torture all the time but a “it’s good until it’s not”. It frustrates me how victim blaming these comments are, he’s not stupid but instead being taken advantage of.
