He is, which I think people forget there is a social hierarchy in Korea. He calls him "Sir" or 님/씨 because he is HIS BOSS. Honorifics is for everyone no matter how much older or younger they are if they are above you in the hierarchy. So I'm not sure how people expect him to "act 30" and stop apologizing when that's literally Korean culture.
True, even here people call others sir (yes the English one) or use -ji honorific to give them respect regardless of age. It doesn't even matter what the hierarchy is, if you're working together, studying together or acquaintances and not really familiar with each other, people would use these honorifics. And I've seen them apologizing for mistakes they didn't even make if they're lower in the hierarchy. Sad, but that's what the norm is.
Yeah I also meant he shouldn't say Sir in private! I understand that they have to say it at work etc. but it's still so disturbing, especially when he says it in the sex-scenes!
Maybe cuz I'm from Sweden and here you don't have to say that, even if it's your boss. We can call the boss for "you" or by their name! <3
No I get it, it's so strange but I'm used to it since it is my culture (and it's so weird). But the problem is, even when they are in private he is still working sadly. The two of them are not friends to drop honoroifics, even during sex, since Dan is still working during intercourse. He's getting paid for the sex, and everything they do in private so
I understand your point, but as you said the most important difference is culture here. Also, Jaekyung has Dan at his house and he's serving him 24/7 so Jaekyung is also his boss 24/7. It's not just about work. In most Asian culture you give respect whatever part of the day it is and no matter wherever you are, be at work or private.
Even if you are having sex with your boss you've got to add the honorific. Dan is 30 and that's precisely why he has to adhere to these social norms ingrained in us since childhood. So yeah, being in private doesn't matter. I guess it seems weird in western settings though it's pretty normal here.
Yeah, it's really strange for us here in Europe because we don't use honoroifics in the same way... We have Mr and Mrs but only use it when writing, not speaking! (except in UK and maybe some other countries ofc!)
But it's very interesting how other cultures have it! In other words, I would have been fired right away in Korea if I just said my boss's name like we do here in Sweden haha!! And yeah, I always forget that Kim Dan works for Jaekyung! :( Sorry if I upset anyone, It's just annoying when it's translate to "Sir" every time! <3
☆☆ This might be completely irrelevant but I really hope Kim Dan stops calling Jaekyung "Sir" all the damn time... and stops apologizing for everything! But most importantly - starts acting like a 30-year-old!!! ☆☆
