I try not to bitch about the plot in these type of stories but in what world does she think the engagement would be broken off and not have insane consequences on her own life. like you're in an abusive household with zero ways to free yourself (no money of her own and only shallow knowledge of the world around her) and then just openly admitting to trying to break off the engagement to her father instead of trying to take care of her plans silently ffs there's nothing in that fridge of a brain of hers
