Like I remember them talking about Yiyoung liking it rough before (I think in the prequel?), but this wasn't planned, and Mr Kang was actually just letting out his anger on Yiyoung.

I’m not defending it because I also don’t really like it but in the prequel the situation wasn’t any different. It wasn’t discussed before hand. Director just fucked him rough because he hated him before he realised what kind of person yiyoung actually is

I guess I was just assuming and hoping that that was one of those tropey, purposefully problematic starts to a story that then gets better.

Ngl even tho Yiyoung ended up liking it I wish he wasn't okay with it regardless, since that type of "rough play" should only happen after discussion and agreement...
And also it feels kinda out of character for Mr Kang to go fucking feral lol.
