He caused the fire while trying to harm margaret, but accidently it set the village on fire, causing many people to die. So that old man came to him and told him to make the "poison" and he would make people beleive it was an accident? But instead he said that margaret was the one who caused the fire and is a waitch, which lead her to being killed?
