People tend to justify their actions as more circumstantial whereas others' as the result of their desire or personality
For ex if you were late you'd be aware of that train that never showed up, if someone else is late you'd think they were sloppy with time.

I think the same is happening with zen, it is difficult to think of oneself as the root of the problem via our actions (but easier to just stick a label on our head that we're the problem period, so it's easier to get influenced by the authority to do certain things since they'd know better and you finally aren't acting to your own accordance thus maybe it'll correct some of the problems you caused)

Believe it or not this type of ironic behaviour is way waaaay far too common
