I think he was actually in denial and what he wanted was to marry Raymond but since he couldn't he just pushed him to his sister so they could be family

Current FL has been pretending to still like Raymond to avoid suspicion, but is just resisting due to being heartbroken. So her brother believes in her act and just pushes her to go for it anyway. Also cause of how her love for Raymond is known to all, lasting several years- so it’s unbelievable to most that she would move on. Adding some other points: it’s also beneficial for him to get Raymond married to his sister, as it would form a stronger connection and support from Raymond’s family. As well as the brother IS closer to Raymond than he is to Agnes. We can see that Agnes and the brother were not that close.

So the brother isn’t like those doting ones you see in other stories where they shower the mc with affection. But he isn’t EVIL like some other readers say (he did no crimes whatsoever). He’s just like those typical real life ANNOYING brothers who are selfish. (Literally like my brother irl)
