It all depends. I saw something about some believing that naming someone after someone is like sharing your lifespan, but honestly I don’t remember where I saw that and if some actually believe that. In that aspect since she’s already passed does that count? Also I think some cultures it’s just because it’s believed to be bad luck and can dishonor a family member, in these cases ask permission from next of kin first? I don’t understand it much, but different places have different beliefs and practices, so it depends on where you live and what you practice.
I would not be so sure about the naming after his mother name thing. Pls correct me if im wrong, but i believe is a taboo to name babies after the elders of the family in Sinosphere countries.
