Maybe they tried it by themselves, who knows. But I hate how it's always almost demanded by the readers for characters to try and bottom, just out of fairness or something? I don't know. You don't need to try out something if you don't want to. And if they think it's emasculating, that's a valid reason for them and they shouldn't be forced to change their mind about it ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
Idk though, cause it's always the same thing. Big macho guy is like Ew no bottom? Bottoming is for women, so the petite pretty guy has to bottom because there is obviously no other way. Also I don't think feeling emasculated is a valid reason cause of the place where it comes from, it's all toxic masculinity and sexism.
I just wish they were more open minded, it's fine not to like something even without trying it, but being a bit more open minded to at least trying something you always want your partner to do would be nice.
It doesn't have to be a valid reason for you, but it is for them. Do I personally agree with it? No. But if that's how they feel about it, then so be it. Not everyone has to have the same mindset.
In the end, if someone doesn't want to do something, then they shouldn't.
I don't think I've read many BL where the bottom wanted to top though, maybe a handful, and only one went through with it (love stage?).
If the bottom enjoys bottoming, I don't see the problem. And if neither wants to bottom, anal sex isn't the only sex there is (๑•ㅂ•)و✧
The authors never think to explore other options of sex either. I've read quite a few where the bottom wanted to top, or just didn't want to bottom or even just didn't want to bottom so often cause it took a toll on their body and their partner didn't care.
Yk what lemme change my phrasing, the characters don't need to become open minded, it's the authors because they write the same things all the time, and it comes from the same stereotypes every time, and they write the same tropes and the same character archetypes every time. Idk what would be wrong with a little bit of change in the industry especially if it means they make content with more communication, more open mindedness, more safe sex and all that jazz.
You should read stuff made by western authors if this is important to you. Eastern ones don't care about things like this, due to differences in culture and not caring as much about "equality" and whatnot.
And as an artist that dabbles in writing myself (exactly because I can't find stories that are 100% my thing), I'd say write/make your own stories, because no one is going to make stuff that completely suits your preferences :' )
And I assume they make all this stuff because it sells best.
I read stuff by all authors dw. They do make this stuff cause it sells but that doesn't mean change won't happen if you want it. There has been a gradual movement away from the tropes of the 2000s (jealousy rape, more rape than there is now, 'straight' guy who's only gay for mc and all that) and it can continue happening.
I've written before but it's not for me and writing my own stuff does not feel the same as reading something by someone else. Gay romance isn't my area to write in anyway.
A BL where a manpreviously only experience's with women knows about anal because he’s done it with women.
It boggles my mind that it’s always portrayed as something exclusively between guys.
I don’t know how common it is for straight couples to engage in it, but it happens.
I think there has been one other BL where it was implied the top had experience with anal with women, but here it wasn’t implied, he straight up said it.
Now if they could at least awknowledge the possibility of switching. I don’t even care if they don’t actually switch, I just want to see a BL have the characters talk about their preferences in a serious way. It’s always just a throwaway line before they get hot and heavy. Like if you’ve never done it before how do you know you won’t enjoy either position?
