Disclaimer tho, i didnt read the novel from the beginning, but only read the half end where i started from the manhwa, so im not sure for the entire changes. But from what i can tell, firstly the novel has an emperor, a crown prince, and then princess catherine. In the manhwa, the crown prince ascended the throne already. Cute tidbit, during the national foundation day, edith and killian was playing footsies in the carriage, but not in the manwha. So cute. Also, in the novel, princess cathrine first met edith during the ball. Unlike in the manhwa where she already spent time with her before it, she was supposed to accuse edith of the poisoning, tell killian off for siding with edith instead of lize like he hadnt love her. Killian replied that like the princess who gave up on cliff, he did the same with lize. Few more banters and she realized her prejudice and apologized to edith and decided to get to know her. the novel also has this part where, after clif and and killian went to war, edith was afraid that theyd be ambushed as was originally ploted, in the mansion. Originally edith was supposed to aid rigelhof in infiltrating the mansion by unlocking the door. So she had been checking every night to check all locks, with the help of anna. Similarly with the manhws, the girls went to windham’s party, unlike in the manhwa, they got ambushed as they return home. Renon was supposed to arrived in the kidnapping before they get away, so he became a witness for edith’s innocence. The novel didnt also involve a coup the palace and the princess didnt summon them that led to their kidnapping. There wasnt a showdown in the palace between langston and the emperor, so princess wasnt able to shine with her new resolve. So cliff didnt commit insubordination by leaving his post in the palace to chase after the girls’ kidnapping. And certainly the duke didn’t arrived at the palace on time. Also, in the novel, edith’s torture was longer and more brutal, lots of whip, punching, bruised black and blue. Also in the novel, she didnt over hear cliff’s and lize’s betrayal. She got herself out, realized cliff left her and thought he thinks she was part of the plan. So she Escaped with the nobles carriage, to get away from them cos theyd kill her as a traitor. Went to the capital, get money, recuperates for 10 days, and went to the long distance carriage station and hesitated for days. In the manhwa, cliff was already approaching so her torture was cut short, she overheard cliff’s and lize’s betrayal so she knew early in that the author is lise. So she escaped after they left, get money, and went to the train station. This bit was funny to me, cos she explicitly tells in her monologue that going to the train station would make her caught faster cos its expected for a noble lady cos its comfier transpo. So she deliberately chose the marriage for the comminers cos its less likely to be inspected and expected of her and she can blend in with people.
i was surprised by the amount of change too. I wanted to see all the hardship eidith actually goes through and what actually happened in the cell and everything. At this point idk how things will go in trail bc eidith looks fine with no bruises or scars or pain. So one crutial evidence to prove she's innocent is not there. but I like how I don't know how it's gonna go
The manhwa deviated a lot from the novel. They really did changed things to fit manhaa type narrative. I mean im not mad at it, its just unexpected and saddening since the emotional parts where cut off. But also excited if this deviance will also project to the manhwa having a different ending from the novel
