So.. can someone spoiler me how the duke reacted in the novel and what 'punishment' he chose for Cliff and the author?

No reader can tell you sis, this is different from the novel. Essentially the flow is the same but the details are different. Example, they were kidnapped going back from countess windham’s party instead going to the palace from a summons from the princess. So the novel didnt have insubordination from Cliff to begin with. Id say, the novel wasnt this politically nuanced, outside of what is needed for edith and the plot.

It’s recommended to read the novel, since the emotional scenes are much better, but if you want to know the novel ending for cliff:

Last I remember, there was no punishment. The duke and duchess obviously aren’t gonna punish their beloved child and the girl who they raised as well. Technically, they don’t know any crimes cliff committed and the kidnapping event he didn’t really commit actual crimes. It was lize/rize who got caught for trying to frame Edith in the cell as a last resort, but lize/rize got away with just being locked in her bedroom (if I remember correctly?) for a certain amount of time. Likely because the duke and duchess still cared for her as well as the fact that cliff, the heir of the family would absolutely not let her go anyways. Killian was angry at this, but Edith honestly was just over it, so they both left the place to their own estate, letting them deal with the problematic ppl. Killian and Edith relaxed and enjoyed spending their time away from that family.

Now the real punishment actually comes in the SIDE STORIES. Cliff and rize are married, but their relationship is rocky. Since rize no longer felt the need to act anymore, she’s showing exactly how selfish she is. She wants to throw huge parties that can’t afford and their wedding had to be huge as well. The duke and duchess as well as cliff are bothered by this. Then rize takes it a step forward by trying to claim credit for the long lost family member of the royal family, but didn’t actually find him- so she made a plan to teach a kid to pretend to be the lost royal kid. Rize was caught and punished for it, by sending her to a monastery. So the emperor made it so cliff and rize divorce. Cliff was actually saddened by this but let her go, and was convinced he wouldn’t find love again. But cliff never actually gets any more punishment than that. He gets off, with saying sorry to Edith.

Aaah, that's an ending that I actually quite understand for an aristocratic family that ist trying to hide their shit. Thank you very much for summerizing it, let's see how they are going to do it in the webtoon ( ̄∇ ̄")

In addition, he actually got to remarry a rather honest and plain lady, contrast to lize, and they seem to be doing well. His punishment was mostly marrying lize and being forced to face the abomination that she is. Also lize didnt get her due cos shes not like miserable in the exile. At first she was, but she adjusted after years.

Hopefully the manhwa would make a change in this part. I wouldnt even be mad, i think no reader would, for this kind of change from the novel.

Well if they changed this part I think there is a high chance that they also change the "punishment" but for now we can just wait.. but the novel was reeeally lenient with Cliff and lize..
