Actually it's normal or kinda needed to consummate the marriage, if not the marriage is unofficial. So the Father has a right to assume since the honeymoon is used to consummate and basically make baby

Also I pray Richard didn’t tell his dad he knocked her up or worse the dad just assumed she’s knocked up and that’s the only reason she could ever bag his son. PLEASE don’t let that be the case…
