but he only ever thought abt kana romantically, which would make sense why he tried to distance himself from her as someone who so deeply loathed himself and thought he couldn't be happy cuz he was so consumed abt revenge and its tragedies. and for akane, it felt more like a "i do deeply care about and respect you" kind of thing, if ykwim?
It's about how u interpret it on a deeper level. In canon Aqua distanced himself from Kana bc he was afraid that a fan would be jealous that she got a boyfriend and tried to kill her, since Kana started to be an idol back then like Ai. Because of his trauma he chose Akane. And it's the same with Akane, he said "I don't want to let go of these days when you're by my side", actually rethinking about his revenge. After that he distanced himself to go through with his revenge to not waver. Also they got together for real after the Tokyo Blade play. Why would he otherwise ...? Like he is not a baby. So yeah the Mangaka made it really confusing what Aqua feels. Only now Kana seems more likely, which I'm not a fan of.
ig agree to disagree bcuz i hadn't interpreted it like that at all. getting tgt with akane ''for real' didn't really seem like a 'for real' but rather, as a way to refine what their relationship was now that the play was over and akane didn't want to break up. and then afterward when she realized the loophole in aqua's thinking that his father was still alive and caught her in the act, there was that whole distancing himself from her after felt like a "oh she's going too far for my sake" esp after the trying to act on her own to kill aqua's father cuz if she did something criminal it could ruin her own future (and also its his revenge not hers) which i feel like aqua wanted to prevent not because he loved her romantically per se but because he cared abt her at the end of the day.
furthermore, i think both those sentiments abt kana, the "i want to stay away because i can't let myself be truly happy" and "i dont want to risk her safety and career as an idol by getting too close" can both be true and dont have to be exclusive. idk to me kana seemed like someone who had a more special place in his heart bcuz of how much more he seemed overprotective abt her (though it came off as him not caring abt her). i dont think it's a matter of whether or not he's a child but just something that ppl tend to do
tldr; akane and aqua to me always had a "idk if this is a romantic relationship frfr but we can be partners in crime bestie" and kana to aqua is the "ooooo i have a crush on this guy" while aqua to kana is "i want to like her but (we'll both) she'll get hurt"
why r people saying he should be ending up with akane it was so obvious he had actually liked kana from the beginning what
