Exactly, Dan doesn't realize what true goodness is and keep on trying to see the good side of people even if they treat him like trash and that's really exhausting. It's a pity he has such low confidence to think he deserves to be treated like that. Where does this comes from ? He doesn't even seem that way, he stays strong and pays his debt back but at the same time he lets himself being stepped on. His character doesn't make any sense. You should at least realize you're being treated like trash ! Event if you think you deserve it !
Low self-esteem strives from insecurities and loneliness! Something I genuinely am interested in is how Danny boy interacts with people, and it's clear throughout the story that he's a people-pleaser as well as someone who can only confide in his grandmother.
Someone who grows up without many friends or with much human communication can make someone become an introvert and a bit awkward when communicating with others for the first time since they don't do it often. Plus, without many others around to influence Danny in his childhood besides his grandmother, he likely takes on the core values and ideals from his grandmother to be a kind and considerate person. People simply see that in him and take advantage of it. (。ŏ﹏ŏ)
i burst out laughing when he was like “there were good times too…” and its like. one scene.
