I understand the general sentiment… but

I think because it is said in the story they are both virgins on both fronts (she has never had a sub and he has never had a master) this is realistic to a degree. This is her first time doing BDSM and trying to figure it out along the way. While he has been doing sub-like acts and wants to dive in head first but, this is his first real SM experience. I think this chapter demonstrates both of their inexperience (very extremely) and how important communication is. When you are a sub giving full control(and trust) to your dom is super important because giving away control is what fuels the pleasure. But, he has been in control of his own pleasure up until Courtney and him became engaged (lost in pleasure at his own terms)which is not good . She isn’t used to having control and he isn’t used to giving up control. Him not stopping when she said “it hurts” just feels very non con and rapey. The level of experience is what I think made this chapter a disappointment for some people (me included) but is a place that can grow over the course of the story. A safe word and communication is a topic that needs to be addressed in the story.

Again this is MY opinion
