Well, it’s a popular trope / story telling tool because it’s polarizing. There’s a weird influx of purity culture rising up in the fan base and so much content recently just makes a lot of people uncomfortable. On the other end of the spectrum there’s people who aren’t bothered by it. I dropped this a bit ago and pop in to see what the story development is but it’s not been interesting to me. I checked the raws and am pulling this off my reading list because I think the story took a turn that it really didn’t need.

Can we not conflate questioning the tokenisation of rape in BL stories with purity culture? Cause one is a good faith criticism that questions rape culture and the other is just using morality as a weapon. I think it's clear the OP is not just going "Ew" bc they think icky content should be censored, but bc these authors clearly can't handle what theyre writing.

I don’t think not wanting to see a rape go on for several chapters is purity culture. That’s a major conflation. It’s just that there’s an excess here that’s serving nothing more than shallow shock factor that it’s unoriginal and exorbitant at this point. Were allowing something so unpleasant become the norm in this genre
I haven’t checked the raws but if this tape scene continues for more than just an extra chapter, I really want to make the statement that editors really need to stop their authors from stretching out and thereby normalizing these abusive scenes in manhwas. I knew what I was going into was gonna be a messy and toxic relationship but the scenes do not need to be several chapters of it. Enough. It’s derivative also.
