Answer
The character reasons are always for more than one reason. Oscar chose Ines because she was the highest status girl in their age group and also to avenge himself against her brother who had him deposed in the TRUE first timeline. Unfortunately, in the novel we do not get his point of view so we can only speculate on his feelings in the crown princess timeline.
Oscar was kind to Ines during their courtship and engagement which lasted 10 years. Part of it might have been because Ines didn’t choose him in the timeline before the timeline he got to marry her. He acted differently in the timeline he married her to win her over. Some novel readers think he groomed her. The bottom line is, Ines falls for guys who treat her well and Oscar treated her well during the engagement thus assuring they will definitely marry. The early years of their marriage were good according to Ines. It’s later that things got really bad especially in the last two years of their 10 years marriage.
It seems that Oscar only regretted treating Ines bad after she committed suicide in front of him. Ines will later think he went crazy after that moment. Carcel thinks Oscar found out too late that he doesn’t want to live without Ines. Of course neither Carcel nor Ines cares about Oscar’s feelings…they just observed these points about him.
Regarding why he degenerated in their marriage, the timeline before the one he married Ines shows it’s his nature to live a debauched life. In the timeline before that, he was married, had a mistress and engaged in sexual orgies. So, in the timeline he married Ines, he basically just reverted to how he normally lived while taking out his revenge on Ines and trampling all over her.

He will talk to Ines about the painter. He knows where the painter is and thought he could threaten Ines with him. However, since Ines was determined to never meet the painter, the crown prince stayed put. Instead, he threatens Carcel’s life and it made Ines tremble so she threatened Oscar that if he kills Carcel, she will kill herself. It was an effective threat because Brian prince doesn’t want Ines to die.
Hi I remember reading a comment awhile back in regards to each character being pretty much morally Gray. Everyone pretty much has a backstory and no one was really a good nor bad person. I tried to go back and find the comments but it's so many. I remember the reason Oscar treated the FL that way was because of her brother killing him for revenge. But I can't remember if he really did like her in the beginning. So did he? I wanna say I did see a comment saying he treated her well in the first years of their marriage. But I'm not sure. And if he did why did he switch up in the later half?
