What everyone seems to misunderstand that Claire and her father, although they do run true to their nature, that their experiences have given them more empathetic tendencies that keep being misunderstood. Claire chose to let herself be used for the benefit of her friend and offered such. But the friend thinks she is just manipulating him under the guise of entrapment, getting closer and closer to him. Making him think he is a Tare, suggesting they could one day marry. Claire doesn’t understand he may actually like her. But he thinks she must know and is using it to her advantage. He believes she will ultimately use him and then throw him away. The father and mother bit, she equates his love as more obsession. And he is trying to break her will to leave him is what he means. He is trying to make her wholly dependant on him so she may never him…. Because he doesn’t understand people can stay because of love. She is also a novice at giving and receiving love.
