He married her bc she’s a dead ringer for the woman he’s in love with (who rejected him and later passed away), he’s hit Shuri and then locked her up for hours at least once to the point that she’s trauma-suppressed all negative memories of him as of the season 2 finale, and even outside of physical violence she was still a child from the countryside who suddenly had to learn to manage a whole estate in a very short period of time. He was also no doubt aware his children wouldn’t like having someone only a few years older than him as their new ‘mother’.
