I dont understand the Riftan Hate

I mean he's bad at communicating, but so is Maxi. And you have to consider that all the while he thought Maxi was being "treated like a princess" in her family home. Thats why I understand that Riftan thinks she's bettee suited for living in luxury than being a warrior. Plus, he's already have a lot on his plate. Its different when your wife is suddenly there of course he would want to protect her.
