I just tried to find the movie you mentioned but the trailer shows something different.
It's the dad who passes away leaving the brother to be the guardian of his nephew.

I think it’s a part of the movie but it might not be the entire plot of the movie
as vinny said it’s part of the movie. the main character, lee, is a depressed and antisocial janitor loses his brother joe, who lives in manchester (in massachusetts not england) and is left to take of his nephew, patrick. when he comes back to manchester to bury his brother, he’s reminded of his past and his mistakes that haunt him from when he used to live (aka him accidentally killing children). hope that clears things up for you!

this aspect of the story, particularly yoohan's grief, shame and guilt, reminds a lot of manchester by the sea. absolutely gut wrenching movie about a father who accidentally causes a house fire that kills his two young children, and how he struggles to live with himself in the aftermath...
