I read the novel and grandpa was fucking pissed that they betrothed Larane to the dumb prince. He gave his dumb son a chance to take back their decision and basically implying it will be the last chance he gives his son to do the right thing and there will be no going back if he doesn't heed his command.

Of course the dumb father didn't take grandpa's word seriously and decided to go with the engagement.

Emperor thought they could one up the Lombardi's by making it some kind of decree/order that a Lombardi must marry a prince and it would be treason not to follow it. They thought they had grandpa cornered. But grandpa instead closed down/withdrew all of Lombardi from the capital- lombardi banks closed, everything lombardi related was closed down and refused to open. Everyone panicked since they thought Lombardi would be cornered but instead the entire capital was in shambles because economy took a nose dive after Lombardi withdrew.

During this time, Tia (with grandpa and Perez help) got Larane to the ship with Avinox to set sail to the south (remember the cruise ship business to the south, they had Larane and Avinox board that ship). Grandpa basically giving his approval of Larane marrying for love and being happy.

Tia then got engaged to Perez (this is still them being in a sort of contractual engagement to help each other sincr Tia still doesn't believe they can be together because she wants to be the head of Lombardi and Perez has to be emperor). Since emperor stated a Lombardi must marry a prince, but didn't specify which Lombardi and which prince, Tia and Perez presented themselves to the emperor as in love and being engaged. Emperor was placated and all was well again.

As for Larane's parents and sibling, grandpa made true his promise and kicked them out of the house because they didn't heed his command of not forcing Lorraine (basically selling their daughter for their selfishness and greed) to marry the dumb first prince.
